EXIAS Medical specializes in the design and manufacture of point-of-care and laboratory solutions that help improve patient care, reduce costs, and improve the overall efficiency of medical institutions. Founded in 2014 by a team of experts with a wealth of experience in the field of In vitro diagnostics (IVD), EXIAS Medical offers a wide range of innovative point-of-care products that boast high performance, reliability, and ease of use.

EXIAS Medical has developed a comprehensive portfolio of medical technologies and solutions to meet the specific needs of its customers. The company’s team of highly trained and experienced professionals utilizes the latest technologies and techniques to ensure that only the highest quality products are delivered to market.

It is this commitment to technical excellence and providing the highest quality of medical technology solutions to their customers that brought them in contact with the Microfluidics Innovation Hub (MIH). EXIAS Medical applied to the NGM Open Call to tackle a specific scientific issue for a new product in development. It involves the formation and adhesion of air bubbles within the sample path which interferes with the overall reliability of the system. Members of the MIH involved in the project provide technical consulting, project coordination and management, and testing and prototyping.

The team from EXIAS Medical with some members of the MIH

According to Josef Hindinger, Managing Partner at EXIAS Medical, through the Open Call and working with the MIH they have gained access to a wider range of knowledge and capabilities that were not easily within reach of their company. He mentions that special capabilities from members of the MIH have allowed them to simulate the fluidic behavior and modify the contact angles of diverse parts of the sample path. With specific know-how from the members they have also learned about different coating processes and how these can be incorporated into production.

Josef recommends that other companies try and apply to the Open Call. Working with the MIH allows companies, whether they be start-ups or established enterprises like EXIAS Medical, to access the full range of services and expertise offered by all its members. He adds that they are pleased with the progress of the project with the MIH and are hopeful that one day EXIAS Medical will be able to introduce the benefits of this new product to their customers in the healthcare industry.
